Working out what a spin is worth
Free spins have a fixed value set by the casino, usually between $0.05 and $0.20, and it is almost never the stake you would have chosen. The maths is two lines:
| Offer | Spin value | Face value | Turnover at 40x |
|---|---|---|---|
| 50 free spins | $0.05 | $2.50 | $100 on winnings |
| 100 free spins | $0.10 | $10.00 | $400 on winnings |
| 120 free spins | $0.05 | $6.00 | $240 on winnings |
Note the last column carefully. The wagering usually applies to what the spins win, not to their face value. So if fifty spins at five cents return $18, you need $720 of turnover at 40x to touch it — and you almost certainly run out of money getting there. The cashout cap then limits whatever survives, typically to $50 or $100.

Free spins versus bonus credit
Spins are more restrictive in one way and less in another. More, because they are locked to a specific game chosen by the casino, usually whatever the studio is promoting that month. Less, because there is no max-bet rule to accidentally breach — the stake is fixed, so the most common way to void a bonus does not apply.
If you are going to be given a fixed stake on a game somebody else picked, the least you can do is find out what its RTP and volatility are before you use them.
That takes fifteen seconds in the game’s info screen and it will tell you whether fifty spins is likely to produce anything at all. On a very high volatility title, fifty spins at five cents is statistically likely to return nothing, and that is not bad luck — it is the game working as designed.
The clauses that catch people
- Daily drip. “200 free spins” that arrive as 20 a day for ten days. Miss a day and those spins are gone.
- Expiry per batch. Each daily batch often expires in 24 hours of its own.
- Winnings cap separate from wagering. Two independent limits, both applying.
- Qualifying deposit. No-deposit spins usually require a real deposit before the win is released.
A sensible way to use them
- Find the spin value and multiply. That is what you have actually been given.
- Find whether wagering applies to winnings or to face value — the difference is enormous.
- Find the cashout cap and treat it as the maximum possible outcome.
- Check the game’s RTP and volatility in its own info screen.
- Use them all in one sitting if they expire daily, and verify your account while you do.
The wider arithmetic of no-deposit offers is in no deposit bonus casinos, and where codes fit is in bonus codes.
Frequently asked questions
Are 100 free spins better than a $20 bonus?
Usually not. A hundred spins at ten cents is $10 of stake locked to one game; $20 of bonus credit is twice the value and you choose where it goes. Compare face values, not spin counts.
Can I change the stake on a free spin?
No. The value is fixed by the casino when the spins are issued.
Why did my free spins disappear?
Expiry, almost always. Free spin batches commonly last 24 hours, and drip-fed offers expire batch by batch.
